My film poster is quite accurate to an actual film poster, it has the title on it and also advertised like a poster,
Poster advertised on the street:
This is my poster i have created:
My poster does look like a poster, it is similar to the stranger things poster, there is similar colours in used in both of them, like red and black, and mine is similar to how the main character is in the centre of the poster and so is mine in my poster. I would change my title to be more visible and I would change the style of it and change the colour so it doesnt blend in as much into the backround.
My audience feedback was that they felt like it was quite similar to an actual Netflix poster, they also said there is quite a bit of detail to it and the colour of it is fitting for the theme which is a crime/horror.
The knife that is used is an enigma code because it is showing crime and it is used in the centre of my poster because the trailer is themed on crime so the knife fits well with this.
I had done some research on Netflix audiences and its about 18+ that use/watch Netflix, 57% male and 43% female which it isnt a big difference.
I have also done my own survey research and got some results and found out what people are into and genres they like.
This helped me for my trailer, these surveys help me get to know about the audience and what they prefer.
If I was going to do this again I would ask other things about films, different types of questions for people to answer, do some more research.
This is a peer critique that somone had do for my press kit, they reviewed it and wrote about it and what they think.
Is the final production presented in context for the intended audience?
The final production is suitable for the intended audience, the film poster could possibly work as an actual Netflix poster, maybe would make a few changes.
I believe that I have successfully done this, I do think I could improve it and make it better but I think it looks ok. I would probably edit the poster more and add more detail to it and the photo of me in it I would edit it more to look realistic in the poster like more blended in. It does look similar to some sort of Netflix promotion.
Planning/Research
My planning was quite useful, the timeplan helped because it reminded me what weeks and days I needed to do whatever work which needed to be done/completed.
Id say doing all this work does reflect 10+ weeks worth of work for this project. If we needed to do some more work to fit in more time to finish, we had options to go do work outside of class too. Doing the mood boards and storyboards, planning props and costumes, scripts etc had helped with this project quite alot since it helps us get more organised and it helps us know what we are doing so we dont have to waste time on the day figuring out what we are doing and whose doing what parts for the filming. I had to do some research on the character that the film was based around so I did some research about it and got some deatail and then atleast I had an idead about the story for this.
So I'd say the planning for this project has gone quite well and was very useful, I think I would have struggled if I hadnt of planned. I practised using phtoshop in my own time and just whenever I could so then I could pick up more skills. It is important that we do planning.
Production skills
I think that the genre of my trailer/film is quite accurate since it is a crime/horror I think the story that was chosen for this genre does work well, I think the camera work has worked well with this project, and editing. I think the colour I have chosen fits really well for this theme, which I used red and black colours which does work well with a crime/horror genre and it makes it look creepy. I used adobe photoshop to edit the poster and editing the trailer I used we video which is a video editing app. I learnt quite a lot using these apps, it taught me new skills like with we video that has taught me how to edit videos and put clips together, using different transitions for the clips, all though I did have a few problems working with it because I was quite new to we video so it was a bit difficult to find out what to do but I learnt.
In our group we all worked well together, there was not any problems and if something was not right we would discuss it together. The time planning had worked well too because it helped me stay on track with the tasks and it kept me updated on what I needed to do. The camera shots went well with the trailer, close up, wide shots etc... The setting of the trailer were set in Worden park which is next to our college in Leyland. We all discussed the setting as a group and decided it would work well, I think it is quite important that we work together and discuss what we think together because it helps us out and get a better idea of what that student may want to do and discuss what they have in mind because if we dont discuss it someone in the group may hate the idea of something for the trailer, it is alsi important that we get involved with the group and to stay focussed and pay attention. When I watched other students trailers it made me realise I can do more to mine, improve on it more/adding to it, like more clips, more transitions, fonts and better soundtrack and make the trailer slightly longer than it is, if I was going to do that agaian I would make sure I would do all that.
Development of skills your project journey
Using Photoshop I have learnt about how to apply effects, like maybe a blurry effect, or erasing things from the pictures, I have also learnt about the fonts which I did not really know much about, I learnt how to use the clone tool and dodge and burn tool which dodge and burn tool helped me with the brightness of my poster so if I wanted it to be darker I would just use this tool and it helps it go with the theme so I wanted my poster to be dark as it is a crime/horror, I have also used brush tools and they were downloaded from https://www.brusheezy.com/, the brushes where useful to use because you can choose the type of brush and style you want to use for the poster to give it more of a good style. For finding trailer music I went on freesound and searched up trailer music that I could use, For sound effects that I added in the trailer I also used freesounds and it had lots of sounds on there which was perfect for my trailer. From when I first started this course I didnt know anything about photoshop or wevideo etc, I never knew how to use it or anything but now I have learnt about it and know more about it, Im still unsure about somethings with them and still learning. I have definitely improved a lot whilst working on this project, my skills have improved, I learnt how to do jump cuts on wevideo, and making the police tape get closer, I added white flash frames which added a good effect to it, it makes it look better and more like a trailer, makes it look not as boring and it can flash into another scene, like a quick change. with the music I cut it up and put it into places where I thought it would work with the trailer clips. I also had learnt how to change the speed/pace of the clips. The music does change the mood of the trailer, also it depends on the style of music that has been added, to match the mood. Makng a storyboard helped alot because I could write down my ideas and it just helped me and the group out a lot, everytime we had an idea we could just write it down and see if we can use it, also we can plan out timing, and camera shots and angles, props and costumes etc... but making a storyboard just keeps us updated and on the same pace as everyone else so we dont get confused, I think making storyboards is probably the most important part of working together as a group.
What would you do differently next time if you had the opportunity to produce the project again?
If I was to do this project again I would definitely improve my press kit, I would add more details to it like information because my press kit is a tiny bit simple and needs more to it like more information about the trailer, add in the age rating for it which it is rated age 15, I would also put in the credits for the cast. I think all the research I did for the story helped me a lot and doing storyboards helped me understand. Next time I would probably just make it really detailed and just write more information down. I feel like the story is quite clear enough to be marketed and the synopsis is fine and explains all the information about the true crime, I think the genre is good and this whole project fits together nicely. I would make my trailer better (the editing) I still feel as if my video editing skills need to be more improved, and my trailer needs more editing to it, next time I would put in more effects and I would like to make it seem more like a trailer and give it that more of a horror/crime sort of vibe than it already is, I would also like to add more sound effects. I would probably get more footage as well. The title on my poster is quite clear to read but I would change the fonts of it to be more creepier and I would probably choose another type of red. I need to improve on the greenscreen skills because it did not look that great in the trailer, because my footage did not blend in with the backround so I would work on that and figure out how I would do that. With the music and sound effects it does feel more like a trailer, without that I dont think it would have gone as successful.
